Hi, my name is Garrett Weinberg.

I’ve been designing and building digital products for over 25 years. I have particular expertise in voice/intelligent assistants and automotive user interfaces, and I was a key contributor to Apple’s Siri and CarPlay products in my 12 years as a Human Interface Designer there.

My services include conversational and multimodal interaction design for AI agents or characters, as well as traditional manual/visual interface design for apps, operating systems, and bespoke devices.

    Created specs and mockups showing more forgiving, adaptive listening behavior for Siri in Apple Intelligence.

    Created rules and guidelines for Siri response behaviors (e.g., when to speak, which GUI pattern to use).

    Designed and prototyped Siri position, state, feedback, and persistence in mixed reality, and support for contextual references via gaze tracking.

    Automotive User Interfaces

    In addition to leading the design of Siri in CarPlay from 2013–2017, I worked on production or concept-car voice or multimodal systems whose end-customers included Jaguar, Ford, Volvo, Mercedes, Chrysler, and Hyundai.

    I take governmental standards and human factors research into account when creating low-distraction UIs / HMIs, whether they’re for information, entertainment, or vehicle automation.

    Siri Activation

    Designed a simpler, single-state listening and persistence model for Siri in iOS 17 (2023). This involved coordinated changes to visual, auditory and tactile cues.

    Collaborated on machine learning models that exclude speech not intended for the assistant.
